Guinea vs. Grub

The past couple of days we've had several run-ins with an animal one doesn't normally encounter on a plate in the United States. Called cuy here in Ecuador, guinea pig is a famous delicacy.
But first, another experimental station. This one was connected to a veterinary school, and dealt mainly with pigs, dairy cattle, and guinea pig. We had a short tour of the pig and cattle and facilities, but the guinea pig house was the highlight.



It was hard seeing all these cute little animals given our lunch yesterday at school:


Yes, I ate it. It was pretty salty but very tender, and I can see why it is a delicacy. It's certainly not anything I'd care to eat every day, but why not try everything once, right?
